A Wedding Prayer
Outloud or in Secracy?
A wedding prayer can be said out loud in front of everyone, or can be said in secrecy for only God's ears to hear. Whichever you choose, please don't forget who you are praying to. Your prayers are heard by the God of the bible, the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Saying a prayer at a wedding in this century is often "just to keep tradition", even when the couple getting married are not Christians!
A Weding Prayer Outloud?
You have the opportunity to introduce the "gospel", which is translated "good news", if you decide to pray out loud. I can sometimes be very opinionated on this topic, because there are so many out there that think they already know what Jesus did on the cross: he died. Very few of them know that while on the cross, he paid the penalty for our sins! Even professing Christians mess this up! I strongly encourage you to take an approach similar to this...Dear God, We are gathered here today in the uniting of ( ) and ( ). Today is a very important day in their lives, and will serve as a great milestone in the countless years to come. God, you don't owe any of us here today a single thing, and the death of Jesus Christ paying the penalty for our sins on the cross is more than we will ever need, but we pray that you will pour out your blessings on ( ) and ( ). Your word is the only flashlight in a world so full of darkness, and in that word we need to put our faith. Please help ( ) and ( ) grow in that faith, and teach them to trust you with all the troubles that might chase after them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
A Wedding Prayer In Secracy
You may have decided that you would much rather pray to God in secrecy, rather than out loud. Although I encourage you to use your own words, as there is no format to pray to God in, you can certainly use the words I put together if your struggling to come up with something to say.Dear God, Please watch over ( ) and ( ). Today is a very important day in their lives, one that they will never forget. Please help them both grow in their faith in you, if you are willing to build it up in them. Your blessings are a great gift to a freshly married couple, but we know that your ultimate will is for us to be more like Jesus Christ. Please work with them in that area. This marriage will teach them much about unconditional love, as it is likely one or the other won't meet the conditions from time to time. Please let your strong hand guide them where you need them.
In Jesus' name, Amen. Whether your wedding prayer is out loud or in secrecy, it is truly heard by God. I hope the wedding goes as planned!
