The names of Jesus Christ are echoed throughout the bible over and over. Why do the many titles of Jesus seem so countless? One name for Jesus Christ is "Our Protector". This is a name taken out of scripture based on his description. Some are more direct, like "God" and "Messiah". Some names reflect a "king", others as an "author" or "teacher". They vary in importance, but all carry a sense of value and contribution. I've compiled a simple list of his names (and references) that mean a lot to me. Here's a full list. Please keep in mind that my interpretations of his many titles may differ from other Christians, but I am still learning.
Names of Jesus Christ Human Names
Jesus Christ- I believe the word "Jesus" means Salvation and the word "Christ" means "Chosen one"
Son of Man- I believe when Jesus was referred to as the son of man, it was a reference to the son of God. God is the creator of Man, and we are made in his image.
Son of God-Jesus was the son of God because God himself came into this world as a man, and as a man, he was the chosen child of God's.
Only Begotten Son of God- Begotten means to "cause to exist or father"
The Word of God-Jesus was called "The Teacher" and "Rabbi" because he spoke the word of God and followed it perfectly. Because he both spoke it and followed it, he was the Word of God.
The Teacher- Jesus taught the word of God to all those who would listen. He taught us how to walk out the Christian life, and how to receive God's grace and eternal life.
The Rabbi- Of the many names of Jesus Christ, this one best represents his large following of people. A Rabbi is a teacher with a following of people. Jesus Christ had a very large following while teaching the word of God.
Prophet- A prophet is chosen by God to "be in the middle" between him and his people - Like a pen is between a writer and the paper.
Head of the Church- Churches are established as places of worship. Because Jesus was the only one worthy of a relationship with God, He was the only one that could lead them to God. This is why he was called the "Head of the Church".
Righteous One- Jesus followed every law God gave to him, and was the ONLY one righteous!
Deliverer- Ponder the things Jesus Christ delivered to us - Eternal Life by accepting Him, The Word of God, enough hope to flood our hearts, etc
Names of Jesus Christ Leadership Names
Messiah- Messiah means "chosen one. Jesus was chosen by God.
Eternal Life- Jesus was resurrected from the death as proof he was eternal life.
Hope- Jesus gives us hope for an eternity with God by entering into a trust relationship with him.
Our Protector- My favorite name for Jesus. Out of the many titles of Jesus Christ, this one sums it all up. Jesus came into this world to die for us, the only way to protect us from God's wrath.
Source of Eternal Salvation for All Who Obey Him- Entering into a trust relationship with Christ will allow you to receive this gift.
Gate- He is the gate to eternal life, but remember, the path is narrow and very few ever find it.
The Way, the Truth, and the Life- Worded perfectly
Resurrection and Life- Jesus was resurrected and is a perfect example of eternal life.
First and Last- Jesus led a sinless life; the only one to ever do this.
Rock- Build your house on the rock, not the sand.
Stone the Builders Rejected- God has a plan for us, and as we build our lives up in many different areas, many of us forget that Jesus is the foundation upon which anything everlasting is built. A house divided falls.
Names of Jesus Christ Divine Names
God- God came into this world as a man; Jesus Christ
Almighty- God is infinitely intelligent and completely in control, and Jesus is God.
Our Great God and Savior-Jesus is God and beared the sins of the world, making him our savior.
Creator- God created the heavens and the earth. God is one of the many names of Jesus Christ.
King of Israel- Jews are God's chosen people and inhabit Israel, the land God gave to them.
King of the Jews- Once again, the Jews are God's chosen people.
King of the Ages- Jesus is an eternal king.
Ruler of the Kings of the Earth- Jesus is God, above ALL authority!
King of Eternal Life- Jesus is the only bridge between us and God, and we must enter into a trust relationship with him to cross the bridge to eternal life.
