10 of GODS PROMISES
Gods promises towards us are almost countless to even the most avid bible studiers. The thing about God is that he really doesn't break His promises.
You have to have faith, which is incredibly hard for me sometimes (I guess God is still working in me and I'm not as perfect as people always tell me =)
Here's an "*updated 11" of Gods promises covering many topics that you may be dealing today.
1 - Gods Promise of Physical Death, Victory Over Death, And Eternal Life
God makes it clear in the old testement that our years on earth will be numbered. He promises us victory over death in 1Corinthians 15:57. Where will we go when we escape this curse that overcomes mankind?
We will swing through the universe into eternal life on that scarlet thread called Jesus Christ.
We arrive at a place whith things so great, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind can conceive what God has prepared for those who love him" (1Corinthians 2:9)
Here's some more scriptures concerning salvation.
2 - Promise Of A Long Physical Life
This is one of Gods Promises that is proved through statistical data. God tells us that through Him, many years will be credited to our lives (Proverbs 9:11).
A study was done that brought back shocking results. Church-goers lived an average of 20 years longer than non-church-goers. Wow, right?
3 - Of Protection and Blessings
Protection - God tells us in Proverbs 1:33 that whoever listens to him will live in safety (I don't understand this one) and be at ease without fear of harm.
Blessings A relationship with God is focused on trust. It's a TRUST relationship. God tells us in Psalms 40:4 that the one that trusts him will be blessed. He goes on to tell us not to lean on our own understanding, but to acknowledge him in all our ways and he will make our paths straight. (This is one of my favorites of Gods promises)
4 - Of Wireless Access (oh yeah...it's true)
I know I really, really need to work on my prayer life. I'm a hypocrite, and it's because we live in the real world. If you ask God for something in prayer (wireless access) according to His will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14)
I think My prayer life is so terrible because I ask for something according to his will, then I get catapaulted back into the real world and become attracted to all the colors this world has to offer. I then remember this next time I think about praying (like God doesn't take me serious anymore
Feel free to pray for me in this area.
5 - Of Peace
Phillipians 4:7 tells us that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind in Jesus Christ. I guess we can always lean on the fact that no matter how bad it gets, we know that there is somebody really BIG that's watching out for us, and it's all going to be perfect one day (no more bank fees, flat tires, and 40 hour work weeks).
6 - Of Guidence
Isaiah 42:16 tells us that He will lead the blind down paths unknown to them and lighting up the darkness along the way, making the rough spots smooth. He adds in that He will never leave us or forsake us.
This single verse of Gods promises can, at certain points in a christians life, bring both understanding to bad scenarios and require a tremendous amount of faith..
7 - To Meet Our Needs
I personally know I could use a better, faster laptop as mine is quickly becoming outdated.
Take note to the fact that I used the word "need". Does a laptop sound like a need? In this day and age, some may think so, but did Jesus need one? I know that God never promised me a laptop, but I can stand firm on the promise found in Phillipians 4:19 that he will meet all of my NEEDS.
I'm still struggling to understand how global hunger fits this promise, but I am still being introduced to much of the bible's content.
8 - Alternate Routes From Temptation
Here's another promise I'm struggling with as a new christian: 1Corinthians 12:9 tells us that alternate routes will be presented to us when we are faced with temptation. I don't understand how this works, nor can I recall a specific time when I've "called on this promise", but I believe God is not a liar and I believe this is true.
9 - Of Receiving
Here's a promise I'm convinced ALOT of christians struggle with:
"Ask and you will recieve, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you."
Pastor Paul Washer makes it clear in a message he delivered that this promise of Gods promises IS true., but only according to God's will. So basically, anything you ask God for with the passion of advancing His kingdom is absolutely yours.
To this day, I still haven't called upon this promise. It almost seems too good to be true, but christians like ourselves must believe in this remarkable promise by God almighty. Maybe I should say a prayer tonight...
10 - Of Gods Faithfulness Towards You
Isaiah 54:10 Is one of Gods promises of reassurance. It conveys the fact that God IS faithful to his people.
What does this really mean? Well, God makes alot of claims, promising things greater than our minds can comprehend. This is God telling us "Oh yeah, it's true. I AM faithful to my people and anything less than faithfullness would be a mark against my character" Everything he has promised us IS indeed true.
11 - Of a High Interest Rate In Your Favor (Yes, it's one of Gods promises)
Ever give something to somebody in need and think to yourself "I did a great deed, but now I have to suffer the loss"? I know those thoughts have worked their way into my head in the past.
Pay Attention!
Gods promises don't fail. Luke 6:38 lets us know that when we give as an act of worship, God sees this and not only gives us back an equal portion, but overflows our cup with blessings. This is an area I need to call on God for greater faith, not because of my lack of belief, but because I don't have much to give away to begin with.
