The Birth Date Of Jesus Christ
The birth date of Jesus Christ is celebrated every year on December 25th, and we have accepted this day in 1AD to be his birthday. If we take a look in our bible, we end up in the books of Matthew and Luke (the only books that cover the topic of Jesus birth). We find in Luke 2:1 that Caesar Augustus (great nephew of Julius Caesar) ordered for a census, requiring everyone in the land to return to their place of birth. Caesar took the throne in 44BC and passed away in 14AD.
Registering your name for a census would be THE perfect time for the exact date of Jesus birth to be recorded, but we are unsure whether or not infants were registered. But outside of our bible, looking in other historical documents, we come across the name Cyril of Jerusalem, who lived some 350 years later. Many people asked him to look up the exact birth date of Jesus Christ, so he reported it back to them as December 25th. But he also requested that the census documents be destroyed. So now, with no physical evidence of the date of Jesus birth, we have followed tradition, celebrating on December 25th. Whether this is the actual date or not, we don't know. It's a little bit like his second coming; We do not know exactly when it is going to be. But if you look at the big picture, the date doesn't matter. It's going to happen when we least expect it, and now that we are living in the end times, we should be prepared 24/7.
So WHEN was Jesus Christ born?
I cannot tell you the exact birth date of Jesus Christ. All I can tell you is he is the foundation of Christianity. When you start looking too deep into irrelevant details, like the exact date of Jesus birth, it's easy to lose focus on the big picture. God himself came into this world as a man. In the flesh and bone, feeling the same temptations we feel everyday, showed us the PERFECT example of his father's original plan. If you want to get to know god, get to know Jesus Christ. Stumble It!
